here is one of the many quilts my grandma made almost 40 years ago...and its still in great shape!!! its made from old polyester suits and i think a sheet for the backing. its SOOO comfy!
I am feeling a bit under the weather this weekend, so im taking my grandmas advice. hot tea with lemon and honey is what she used to give us. dont ya love my orange starbucks mug? its my fav!
ive also been working on my potholders for my swap. almost done!!! heres a sneak peak. ill give a full pic later in the week once they are mailed.
ok, back to my comfy chair with my cozy grandma quilt and my hot tea. its even raining which makes it that much more enjoyable to curl up today. maybe ill put in a good movie too. happy saturday.

She must have made that quilt in the 60's or 70's when polyester was the thing. They do keep one warm....so stay warm and I hope you get to feeling better.
Wouldn't you have loved to have seen the coral colored polyester suit that fabric came from?? I wonder what kind of hair style, shoes, and accessories you need to pull off a suit like that? Funny to think about! :)
Don't you know our grandkids are going to look back at our Moda pre-cuts and probably laugh at the fabrics?

Is that not amazing using suit to make the quilt. My Granny told me that back then you just used whatever you could to cover the windows and beds. Granny still doesn't buy fabric. She only uses what others give her. For her birthday a lot of bloggers sent her lots of fabric. That is what she has been using lately for her scrappy quilts. She loved it. I hope you feel better soon. I love your Grandma's quilt. What a treasure.

I love the quilt! My mother in law recently gave us some quilts from one of each of her mothers (her mother and mother in law); they are really comfy and I was so amazed; they are completely hand sewn! Could you imagine!? I do love having stuff like that, though they are treasures! Do feel better soon, and will be watching for your pot holders; the sneak peak looks good!
We had a panty factory in the small town where I grew up. My grandmother got the panties that didn't make the cut and she turned them into quilts. Both of my boys got one when they were born. It is so neat to see things from the past that really used up what they already had.

If all quilts were made our of polyester, there would be no work for quilt restorers. Those things last FOREVER. Not beautiful, perhaps, but they are DURABLE and that has to count for something. That said, I do not plan to give up cotton for polyester, but I like to get my hands on it when I need to make a humanitarian quilt that I know will be used hard.
