Sister doll and hoop ornament

ive been way out of touch lately.  lifes busy and i cant seem to slow it down.  how is it just a few weeks before christmas?  i mean seriously! 

here is my doll i made for my sister.  i showed you the one she made for me in my previous post. 

she had to have a purse because my sister has a wee bit of a purse obsession.  bags too :)

 they got to be together for thanksgiving.  but she took her home on saturday.  boooo.

here is another project i made last weekend for FNSI.  totally forgot to blog about it.  heck i forgot to link the sign ups.  i suck right now.  (pardon my french)

its a hoop ornament.  im going to hang it in my sewing room or over a mirror in the foyer.  not sure yet.  i found the idea on pinterest and almost copied it to a tee cuz i loved it so much.  its just a hoop, fabric, ric rac and ribbon.  took me under an hour. 

have you all made a lot of things from pinterest?  i can proudly say i have.  ill show you a few other ideas this month.  this is assuming ill blog more than once this month.  ;) ;) ;)

Baby quilt

we have a new baby girl in the family, so i decided to tackle my first baby quilt.  now i get it why so many people make them.  they are simple when they are small!!!  i did the entire thing sunday afternoon/evening. 

it measures 36x36.  i wanted to make a small one for laying the baby on the floor or a stroller quilt.  she lives in North Dakota.....maybe i shouldve put 3-4 layers of batting cuz its so cold there.     LOL!!

 the fabric is LITTLE APPLES by Moda. i adore the aqua / turquoise color so of course i had to use it as my backing.  the binding is a solid kona gray.

 have you seen these binding clips?  HEIDI turned me onto them and i LOVE them!!! 

for a job well done, i treated myself to this.   coffee, ice cream, and chocolate all in one.  now that's some good stuffs!!

FNSI results

Last night for FNSI i made a needle book.  not much of a night for sewing, but i spent a lot of time hiding in my mom cave and deciding what fabrics to use on a bag im going to make for the beach with Lucys Crabshack.  shew that was a long sentence.  ;)

i added the piece of ribbon on the right side to hold a roll of embroidery thread. 

i went with some playful bright felt on the inside to match the color scheme of the outside.  nice and summery.

a few weeks ago i sent these items off in the mail all the way to the east coast.  it was for the quilters day swap.

a pincushion, an apron, a recipe book and a honey bun.  ive heard from my swap partner, but crazy thing is i dont have her blog address.  so i had to wing it without stalking my partner. 

last night while going through pics i realized i hadnt posted what i sent.  this month has been SO busy!  we are almost at the end of baseball.  ill miss it, but 3 times a week is a bit much for this busy working mom.

i have family in town and will be lounging in the pool this weekend.  i cant wait to relax for a few days.  have a great memorial weekend!!!

i think ill make one for my nightstand.  she lays down nicely while charging :)

I would love to tackle a large scale one for my ipad, but this template took me awhile.  after working all day and being brain tired,  i was having trouble getting the 5" triangles correct.  sewing it together was a breeze. 

i also chose to use crushed walnut shells for the stuffing instead of rice.  wait.......i just realized it can be used as a pincushion also!!!  :)  :)  :)

i need to start surfing your FNSI projects.  i seriously havent sat down all day.  this morning started with garage sales (only 2 good finds) then errands errands errands.  i ran to the dollar tree for some items needed for another pinterest project in the works.  check back this week for that update.

9patch pin cushions

these seem to be all over blogland right now.  im going to make a few of them tonight as gifts.  this one is about 4.5 inches finished.  im going to try and make a smaller one.  but man are those little 1" pieces tough to work with.

i included this one in the latest swap i participated in.  i cant show you the other goodies, because she hasnt let me know she got her stuff yet.  :)

do you all know how addicted to AQUA i am right now?  im not even embarrassed to say it.
curious tho, do you consider it Aqua or Turquoise? is it the same thing???  to me, aqua is bluer and turquoise has more of a green tone.  but thats just my opinion.

tomorrow ill be taking my fabulous mother out shopping at HomeGoods (our fav store) and then to lunch.  build up an appetite first!!!  Happy Mothers Day weekend to everyone!!!

Bobbin Ring

I've discovered so many fabulous ideas for my sewing/craft space lately.  this week i will be sharing quite a few of them.  it might be blogging post overload by the weekend!!!

all you need is a big ol metal ring and a bunch of bobbins.

this keeps all of my empty bobbins together.  im always digging in my desk for a new one. well not anymore.  thanks to that crafty person who came up with this idea!!!

FNSI pillow cases results and winner!

i was able to get 5 pillow cases done on friday.  i actually made them in shifts.  I cut them out before baseball and sewed them after.  LOL

i geared them more towards teens.  they seem to be the ones that are a bit left out.  Even teen boys LOVE batman!!   Check out the one with the bicycles.  i wish you could see it in person.  its a pale pink with gray.  adorable.

(I cant get this darn picture to go the right way!  bear with me.  this new blogger doesn't seem to agree with me tonight.  )

These are a few made by my sister.  Sadly we dont live near each other, but she wanted to participate and shes going to mail them in this week.  (THANKS GING!!!)

Sewing Machine Cover

I'm really bad at putting my sewing machine away, so she needed a cover to keep the dust off of her.

all i did was measure the machine and make a simple cover.  just strips of this fun vintage looking sewing fabric i found.  i think my strips were 4x18.  I added some ties and a backing fabric. 

now shes all nice and snug like a bug in a rug.
